Hi, As I was reading the new book " A Christmas Tree in the White House" one of the students asked why they didn't use an artificial tree. I explained that they didn't exist in the early 1900s. The next question of course was when was the first one. Seizing the opportunity I grabbed Famous First Facts which I assumed would have the answer. We searched some other obvious sources, encyclopedias, books on Christmas trees, Christmas customs. No luck. Any suggestions?
