LM Folks--
I, too, don't believe is limiting reading to "grade level" -- have heard too
many stories of people who once loved to read until they were told what to
read. We do limit, at Ellis B. Hyde, the special education students to one
book (others may check out three), and steer them heartily to the picure book
shelf. This particular class are all nonreaders. There is the "rule of
five", if you read a page of the book you've chosen and put a finger up for
each word you don't know and reach five, then you will be better off with
another book.
Thanks for the thread.

Subject: Librarian's Role

To all,

In a private or public school, is there a standard of how many hours a
librarian should be teaching and how many hours are dedicated to the
administration end of the library?

I teach 28 hours a week and find that I do not have enough time doing
the things I want to do in the library. Because I only teach K-5, my
schedule was considered light so I am asked to teach two math classes
and study skills to sixth grade.

Is there something out there in writing of a recommended amount of hours
a librarian needs to perform her duties and be effective to the school?

Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
