DATE OF NOTICE: November 24, 1998. POSITION: Assistant Professor, Library Media Education Department, Probationary Track. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin January 15, 1999, and continue until position is filled. SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience, excellent benefits. DATE OF APPOINTMENT: August 23, 1999. RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach graduate courses both on campus and off campus in the following or related areas: Young Adult Literature, Evaluation and Selection of Materials, Media Literacy and the Curriculum, Mission, Function and Role of the School Library Media Program, Systems Design, Research. Integrate Minnesota graduation standards into courses. Advise students: degree and licensure requirements and master's papers. Serve on departmental and university committees. Maintain an active research agenda through publications and presentations (required for tenure and promotion). Develop, implement, and model appropriate standards-based assessment in courses. Service to the University and community. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Completion of Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Library Media or Educational Technology or Information Science or Adult Education or Teacher Education or related field. (ABD candidates will be considered, however, their degree must be conferred by August 17, 1999.) Evidence of scholarship through research presentations and publications or strong potential for developing scholarship. Documented successful preK-12 classroom teaching requirements of Minnesota, or equivalent, media generalist license. Evidence of commitment to departmental curricular and program development including preparation of preK-12 library media specialists, incorporation of State of Minnesota Graduation standards into the library media curriculum, standards-based performance assessment, and integration of technology in the curriculum and teaching. Ability to model effective teaching. Knowledge of current trends in school library media and technology. Evidence of commitment to professional growth and professional organization involvement. PREFERRED: Record of successful teaching in higher education. Research/scholarly activity portfolio commensurate with experience in education. Record of community service. Evidence of continuing creative preK-12 involvement in schools, including observation, supervision of interns, and action research. RELATED INFORMATION: The Library Media Education Department is one of two state universities in Minnesota offering coursework leading to media licensure in Minnesota. The Department has a strong commitment to extended campus teaching and distance education. In addition to licensure, the Department offers coursework leading to Master's and Specialist degrees. The position offers leadership opportunities and opportunities for determining the future direction of library media education in Minnesota for qualified candidates.
