How do your media centers handle books that are being weeded from the collection? A few years ago when we were weeding the high school collection, I called around to question policy from other schools. I found that media centers were quietly disposing of the books through having a janitor take care of quietly through dumping, the Good Will, and even burying. Our k-6 media center is now in the process of a major weeding project. One of their teachers is insisting that they sell the books at a parent event to make money. Would it be wise to sell the books outwardly to the parents who have already bought them with their tax dollars. Also if the books are sold for a profit should not the money go to the library budget. Please reply as soon as possible. We need input.
