I just wanted to thank everyone for their help with suggestions to solve my
disappearing cd drive.  We started with the easiest suggestions and moved on
to the next suggestion.  The one that worked for us, was to buy and
antivirus program.  The drive is up and running again.  To those of you who
wrote that you were having the same problem I wish you the same luck I had.
