I read an article shortly after Theodore Geisel's death that during his lifetime he refused to commercialize his books by liceansing the Cat in the Hat and others. However his heirs felt differently and decided to "cash in". The first result was the media event of the publication and production of Daisy Head Maisie. I know that many of the Seuss related items that I own are not copywrited by Random House but by other companies. I do know that last year Random did a big promotion for the 40th birthday of the Cat in the Hat. Birthday parties were held throughout the country. Maybe if there is another promotion like this one the people in NEA or whoever sponsors it can inform Random via the Internet!
