ELEM: Ideas for Reading Carnival

In May 1998 when McHenry's Book Bear returns (for more about BB see his web
site at:  http://www.fcboe.ga.net/floyd/bookbear.htm) we plan to have a
Reading Carnival.  We hope to have several stations after PTO for
parents/students to rotate to for acvities.  Each station will last about 7-10
minutes.  Any of you had a reading carnival before?  Have any ideas for things
to do at the stations?  Once I have everything set...I'll post a hit, as well
as, let you know what we will be doing.  So far the only thing we do have set
is that the last thing we will do is:

*each student who comes (or parent) will get to choose a free book from a
selection we purchased last year from Scholastic's End-Of-The-Year 50% off
sale.  We will know that they attended each session because their tag/ticket
will be punched at each station.  We may also have the Scholastic's 50% off
Book Fair at the same time so they can purchase books too.

*have a local storyteller kick the event off and share some of the books she
uses for her stories

*have the public library come in and do something about a library
card...register people for a card...and tell about summer reading program

Any other ideas will greatly be appreciated...
