Happy New Year LM-Netter's! Does anyone have a recommendation on how to teach library skills (dictionary, encyclopedia, index, almanac, etc.) to 3-5 grade exceptional ed. students? I have lots of ideas for library skills, but because of the students' low reading skills, they cannot comprehend the activities and written excercises as readily as their mainstreamed counterparts. For the past year that I have been at this school, I have mainly done themed story-times. I have about 250 students that fit into this category of Exept. Ed. I feel that they should be getting more out of Library Time. What happens when they go on to middle school, with no skills? How do you deal with your students? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Camille Atkins Media Specialist G.W. Carver Elementary School 1110 W.
