I noticed during the Thanksgiving time that a number of teachers had kids playing Indian, making paper feathers for play headdresses and the like. I am looking for a short concise something (pamphlet, article, whatever) as an intro for teachers on how not to fall into the Indian stereotype trap at Thanksgiving. I have a whole book of very good stuff that was out out years ago by the Council on Interracial Books for Children (oh, do I miss those folks!!), but it is too detailed and lengthy for teachers who are new to the ideas and don't have time or motivation to read it. I want something I can give to an overworked but vaguely interested teacher. So...have you seen a good article in an education publication? What else might work? Any and all suggestions welcomed! -- Johanna Halbeisen Woodland Elementary School(K-4) Southwick, Mass jhalbei@k12.oit.umass.edu =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
