LM_Netters: Sorry it took me so long to get back with this. Thanks to Maria, Eliece, Paula, and Charlotte (hope I didn't miss anyone) for information about periodicals for African-Americans. YSB, the periodical I remember, no longer is being published. "Right On!" is similar in format to "Teen" and "Teen Beat." "Black Entrepreneur" is used in one high school and was recommended for 6-8th grades also. It has all "positive images of African Americans in high paying positions" and students choose it over "Sports Illustrated." "Emerge" is strictly for women. "Ebony" is used in one elementary school although the librarian does "cringe" at some article titles. Based on this info, I'm going to look into "Right On!" and "Black Entrepreneur." I also will get to a large bookstore ASAP for other ideas, but that's a 45-minute drive. I hope this helps others. Myra Gross (square12@bellatlantic.net) Librarian, Logan Township Elem.
