We have both Eiki and Elmo overhead projectors.  I too thought the use
of bulbs was excessive until I did a quick survey of overhead usage. Ten
years ago no teachers used overheads, today each overhead is used an
average of 2.5 hours per day, thus the number of bulbs vs. usage is not
that great.  The average life of a bulb is eighty hours.  A normal
projector will use about 4-5 bulbs a yearzs.
