Combined school/public library

We have been contacted at our system office for information on this
subject.   This person is looking for info for a small town - 1000 folks
- that is going to build a new school and would like to explore the
possibility of a combined school and public library.  At present there
is a one person library opened a few hours per week and a school library
without certified personnel and limited facilities.  Do you have any
research that would help them?   I will be glad to pass on any and all
pro and con.  Thanks so much, you wonderful folks.   I do appreciate any
