IMHO, I am glad commercial companies monitor our list. Many times
they are of great help when we have questions. Also, it shows their
concern for our perceived needs.

*However*; I really do not like *cold* telephone calls! Email from
vendors is OK - we work with email at our own convenience...phone
calls are at *their* convenience, and I consider them intrusive.
Just last week I had students waiting in line for my help when I
rec'd a call from Educational Video (or something like that) wanting
to send me a box of videos to preview. I politely turned down the
offer saying that I didn't do that. The caller then had the AUDACITY to ask
"Why?" --- Geez, did this young man actually expect me to explain my
selection policy and philosophies to him while my students were kept
waiting? Of course, I became quite rude in my explanation that I did
not have time, and hung up!

So, if the company which has the practice of sending boxes of videos
for preview, is monitoring this msg. please be advised this is one
librarian who was mishandled! And furthermore, if you wish to
appologize - don't call! Email.
