I can only tell you what my typical day in a high school media center looks like. There are two library media specialists (myjob is split with another media specialist because I am alos the program leader for the department.) The other media specialist opens the media center at 7:00 a.m. She gets the daily newspapers and puts them out, turns on all of the equipment, checks for interlibrary loan requests within the district and gets the materials for ill. She alos deals with overdues and takes care of check in and check out before I arrive. When I get there things are already in motion. We have students in and out all day long. Ofter classes are signed up for research. If the teacher requests we come into the classroom and give formal instruction, design handouts for finding information with the best resources for the project. We are working with students informally all day long. During this time, one of us sets up satellite and cable programs for recording and showing out. We used to do much more showing out but now almost all classrooms have tv monitors connected to the cable. During the time when we are not working with students we may look for resources for teachers and students, shelve books, put away other materials. Any classroom, teacher, network computers, copy machines, etc that break down, we are called to see if we can fix them. If not, we sent a request for repair or whatever to the resources that do that. We answer phone calls, etc. The last person in closes down all the computers, locks up, straightens up. I am sure that many things are left out, but this is an idea. It is a very busy job. \ Michele Missner On Mon, 29 Jun 1998, Bonnie Halfpenny wrote: > If this were during the regular school year, I would know several people > to ask, but it's not!
