Our county (Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, FL) is undergoing a
BIG restructuring. The Media listserve for the county just got an E-Mail
(confirming the rumor) that the position for the person downtown that was
our Media contact was eliminated as part of the district's reorganization
plan. Now, we have not had a true Media support department in our county
for quite a while (I'm new, but I think it's been 4 or more years at which
time they also did away with a county level AV lending library and
cataloging help.) The message went on to say that if we felt that the
district was... "not presently equipped to support their media specialists
in ways that are truly needed, I suggest that a group of media specialists
meet to determine what those unmet needs are." Well, you don't have to ask
me twice to pull out my soapbox, but I am brand new so I'd like to know how
other districts do it. So my question to this group:

How does your county/district support the school Media programs? What do
you like/dislike about the services offered? If you were king how would
you arrange district support for school level Media personnel and their
programs?

Thanks in advance for all your thoughts, ideas, and experience with this
subject. Note: OCPS is a very large district; I think we are the 16th
largest in the nation. We have about 180 schools total. It might help if
you give me an indication of your district's size when you respond.

If there is interest I will post a hit.
