I think there some other variations of this scam using other xx# numbers. The important thing to remember is that the phone company doesn't have to call you to test a line... They can do it from the office whenever they want to, and you'll never know it. The same thing applies to someone calling you saying they're from AOL (or another ISP), and asking for your password or from the bank and asking for your ATM pin number.
