Students at Computers

Is there a program which can be networked and which will tell me which
student was using which computer and, if possible, what sites were being
accessed? Or do you have some kind of procedure where a student signs in
on a computer with his/her name or student ID number.  If so, do you
have to shut down the computer after each student is finished or how
does the next student insert his/her name or number?  We are a school of
525 students and have been too lax with our procedures--I am the only
librarian, no aides, and not familiar with any way of doing this.  Thank
you for your help even at this very busy time of ther year.
