AASL to Participate in National Academy

The American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a division
of the American Library Association, will participate in The National
Academy on the Alignment of Standards and Teacher Development for
Student Learning, June 5-6, 1998 in Washington, D.C. The National
Academy is presented by the Association of Teacher Educators, the
American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, and the National
Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education; and is co-sponsored by
14 other education organizations including the Alliance for Curriculum
Reform, of which AASL is a member.

This two-day academy will give faculty and practitioners who
prepare teachers an opportunity to work with emerging education
standards across the P-16 continuum and across discipline areas by
bringing together the groups that have been developing standards with
professional educators who are implementing programs. As part of the
program, AASL president-elect Sharon Coatney (Blue Valley School
District, Kansas), member Richard Connell (Blue Valley School District,
Kansas), and executive director Julie Walker will offer a session on the
Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning, which will be
published this summer as part of Information Power: Building
Partnerships for Learning and as a separate publication. Both
publications will be available from ALA Editions. To request a catalog call
toll free 1-800-545-2433 extension 2425.
