Dear Friends,

I work in a school of 620 first, second, and third graders. It is the end of
the school year and I am once again trying to come up with ways to keep from
loosing so many books. The kids take them home and the books are gone
forever. I send home bills, and keep the kids from taking other books out,
but still I am missing too many.

I am thinking about sending home a form in September. It would read:

Library Contract

I promise to take care of library books
by keeping them safe and dry.
I promise to keep my library book in my backpack or my desk.
Library books are property of the Glassboro Public School System and must be
returned.
There will be a charge for lost or damaged books.

parent signature date

Students and their families would have to sign and return it before they
could borrow books.
I want to do this to help keep parents and kids aware that borrowing a
library book is serious business.

On the one hand, it would be no different than a public library borrower's
card.

BUT, what do I do with the kids who don't / can't get this signed?

Your thought and comments, please!!
