When will this cruel war be over? [Dear America series] by Barry Denenberg This is one of a series of fictional diaries, this one being during the Civil War. I was a third of the way through before I established it was from the South (now as I write this I see on the cover "Gordonsville, VA" - oh well). For the beginning of the diary you don't realize that this takes place in a large home with many servents. Besides all the above I was got really wrapped up in the story. Normally these type of books are from the northern perspecitive but this shows how horrible (and confusing) it was to live during this time. The book has a wonderful appendix giving the reader some history along with an epilogue to wrap up the story of the characters. The epilogue gives one the feeling that this fictional diary is based on some true lives, but nowhere does it say that. I would be nice to have a statement saying that all these people are ficticious or not. I was putting off reading this series which I got at our book fair, but now I will anxiously read the others. This one is 156 p. and approachable to all the students in my 5-8 school. *** Frederick Muller fmuller@planet.net Halsted Middle School Library (973) 383-7440 ext.228 59 Halsted Street FAX (973) 383-7432 Newton, NJ 07860 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
