We all know how important the e-rate funding is to our students and
their need for a networked, technology-rich environment. Our
schools benefit from these dollars. Those of us in poor and less
affluent areas are very dependent upon them.

You've read the posting here on LM_NET and perhaps from ALAWON
(http://www.ala.org/washoff/) re. the discussions that may lead to a new
bill this week
that would lower the cap on the e-rate funds *this year* from the
original 2.25 billion dollars down to the currently collected 625
million dollars. I know South Carolina children can't afford
this! I encourage everyone to speak up now before it's too late.

Senators Hollings (D-SC) and Stevens (R-AK) have been associated with
the rumor.

For contact information for the One Hundred Fifth Congress, a good URL:

U.S. Senators and Representatives (from ALAWON) (phone:202/224-3121)
Federal Communications Commission (from ALAWON) (phone: 202/418-0500)

For South Carolinians:
Senator Hollings: E-mail: senator@hollings.senate.gov
Snail mail: 125 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510
Telephone: (202)224-6121
Telephone: 1-800-922-8503 (This is a toll-free number for South
Carolina residents.)

If anyone would like me to forward a copy of the ALAWON alert, please
let me know.
