GEN:Help with inventors!

One of our science teachers is doing an inovative project with her
students.  She is asking the students to look up inventors as diverse as:
creator of Toll House cookies, eskimo pie, platform scales, liquid paper,
dixie cups, vinyl. compact disc, etc and I have gone to the Invention Hall
of Fame which is only American and I am desperate to help these students.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to find info on these hard to find
inventors???  I will be indebted to all of you!
