I too agree with his/her expressions. I rather think that in a society
with so many complications and crises that are matters of
life-and-death for him/her/them . . .going out of his/her way to
squabble over how a certain way of wording "man/woman" (in a generality
that everyone knows involves everyone), is going to affect his/her
dignity, social standing or outlook on life, is an "issue" that should
not even be an issue. In a society where a child plants bombs in
his/her school as a prank, that could end up killing many of his/her
friends, is the issue really whether he/she wants to be called he/she
or instead why he/she would even think of doing such a thing? Or the
student who takes his/her father's/mother's gun to school or to
McDonalds and starts shooting others at random? Or the person who goes
to a party, drinks and then insists that he/she is capable of driving
his/her car home...only to find that he/she isn't at all capable and
he/she end up killing an innocent person? Shall we then also rewrite
all the books, movies, songs, TV shows and other materials in the world
and change, where it refers to general mankind by using he, his, him,
man or man's to he/she, his/her or hers, him/her, man or man's/woman or
woman's or women. Come on folks--get a grip. I do not personally know
any of the folks who have written in on this discussion, so mean no
personal offense to any of you men/women. You are all probably very
nice men/women, whether we agree on this "issue" or not. And that is
my 2c worth, give or take a penny, and taking into account inflation
since that particular phrase was coined.
