Here is a message I got in response to my comment
about the SI issue (name withheld by request) I felt I should share:

My 2 cents:
I routinely dispose of (or instruct aides to dispose of) the advertising
sections which clutter up the daily newspapers.....I see no ethical
difference between that and disposing of offensive advertising in
magazines (which I *don't* routinely do) ....last adv. I got rid of
was the black horse mating with the white horse (Colors of Beneton)
in Rolling Stone magazine a few years ago.  Let's face it: there is
no informational/educational l material there....we pay for the
subscription not the advertisement therein. Why should we stick our necks out,
put our jobs on the line, etc. for advertising?????
