I was going to stay out of this, but it goes against my nature.....Is there any
valid reason to continue to use 'man' when the whole of humankind is the
subject? Is there any valid reason to continue to belittle females by telling
them to just assume they are included when the language is exclusive? Maybe
no-one has the time to go back and correct the mistakes
of the past, but to continue to repeat the error is unconscionable. I agree with
Eileen.....there is no way males would tolerate the "just include yourself in
there somewhere" concept behind "all WOMEN are created equal", no more so than
the men of 1776 would have accepted a definition of 'men' as anything other than
white males.
