I think kids are so used to some of this kind of advertising
that they don't even see it anymore. A group of students
was looking at the SI issue in question today and as I
peeked over their shoulders I found them focusing on
two specific pages:

1) The picture of the knees with every dent and inperfection
so clearly visible...

2) The athlete floating in the water with his head above
water... with a discussion about just how the photo was
taken.

No one seems interested in the other photos.
