Kindergartens and lmc's

Our district runs a center for 18 kindergarten classes in one building.
Children are then dispersed to "neighborhood" elementary schools the next
year. There is much concern about the advantages and disadvantages of such
a set up but no one has any concrete data to support their biases one way
or the other.  Anybody out there know where I can find research data on
both sides of the issue?
