Hello, Well-- it has finally happened. A parent has challenged a book being read in a fourth grade class reading group -- Baby by Patricia MacLachlan. The principal told the teacher to talk to me before she met with the parent. I gave her a challenged materials form to fill out, but we don't have an official policy in place (of course!). Right now, I am thinking of getting a committee of myself, the principal, the teacher, and one or two other classroom teachers who use the novel to meet with the parent. Do you think this is appropriate, or will it look like we are ganging up on the parent? I don't know her specific reason for disapproving the book -- just that she deems it "inappropriate" Does anyone know how I can locate book reviews of Baby? Many Thanks!
