Has anyone read "Why can't libraries be more like bookstores?" in the = March issue of _American Libraries_? It is aimed at public libraries, = of course; but I think it gives us something to think about, too. =20 Not that we have a lot of high-priced staff (the author's chief bone of = contention). But think of the number of retail establishments staffed = solely by high school students (paid, of course) from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. = Couldn't our libraries stay open longer hours if we would entrust them = to student staff? =20 We do our *teaching* during school hours, like any other teachers. But = wouldn't it be nice to have the libraries open longer for student use? And wouldn't it be nice to offer armchairs for readers?=20 Holly Wolf Palmyra-Macedon H.S. library =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
