I haven't seen anything like Babysitters for boys. Some of the books that are popular with older elementary boys in our school are books by Alfred Slote, DANNY DUNN books by Jay Williams, SMALL POTATOES books by Harriet Ziefert(lower grades too), EINSTEIN ANDERSON books by Seymour Simon, any of the CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE books by Edward Packard, Ramsey Montgomery, Jay Liebold, Shannon Gilligan. They also like books by Matt Christopher which are mostly sports oriented. They don't go looking for them, but if you show them the dog books by Jim Kjelgaard, or some of the classics like OLD YELLER, SOUNDER, GENTLE BEN, BLACK BEAUTY AND BLACK STALLION types of books--they like those too. My boys love the Hardy Boys, which I don't think are approved for school libraries. Nor is Nancy Drew. Anyone know why? They are as good in literary content as BABYSITTER'S I think, and a whole lot more appropriate reading to my way of thinking. I know the main characters are older, but that never bothered me when I read them. Frannie T.
