When I see some of the topics that are discussed ad infinitum (sp?) on
the net (eg. "Is there a God," and "Man, oh man"), I wonder, "Don't many
of you have anything to do?" Personally, I'm up to my ears and beyond.

I wasn't going to respond - as I thought the posts speaking of the
librarian and how busy s/he was were jokes - but, I guess not.

I would hope that we are humans first and librarians second. One of the
reasons i became a librarian 35 years ago (OH GOD!) was that I
interested in everything I could learn. I find the diversity of
questions and concerns here fun. If I don't want to read something I do
what everyone else has - I delete. I would hope we are more than
librarians and have more interests than reference and cataloging.

For example i found the thread concerningn pinching people on St.
Patrick's day disturbing and fascinating. I had never heard of this
abuse before. What did it have to do with library science? Nothing. What
did it have to do with the human race? Everything.
