Lynn;

We have four that I check out on a regular basis. I gave them barcodes
in our library system and check them out to students.

I do not have an instruction sheet but they are so simple that I really
don't need one. Kids show other kids.

I tell them the pen is a mouse substitute and that helps them. We use
Clarisworks on our Macs so I tell them it is just about the same except
that the menu is on the bottom of the page. I ALWAYS show them the
overview button because if I don't they cannot find their second and
third paper. A two minute lesson gives them all they need.

I have a laser printer on our ethernetwork but it also has a port for
appletalk. I keep an appletalk connector plugged in and ready to use.
When the students return the emate in the morning, I show them once how
to print and then I rarely mess with that. I also give them the option
of saving to disk and that is on my computer so I have to do that for
them but that does not take long either.

It all works pretty slick and the kids are very happy to have them to
take home. We didn't start using them until the first quarter was almost
over but my circulation system shows several of them have been out 80
nights already this year.

The only problem we have had is that once in a while we have to push the
reset button and then that requires reconfiguration if we have to do the
hard reset. In the teacher setup, I just have one user named Student and
then everyone uses that.

Good luck, I think your students will wish you had more. Some days I
could check out 8 to 12 of them depending on which teacher has
assignments due.
