faculty access to library

Again,  the issue of faculty after-hour access to the Library is being
raised  at  tomorrow's  staff  meeting.   I  continue  to  remind  the
Administration  that:  the  Library  is  open  8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.;
closed  NOON - 12:45; every faculty member has one prep. period a day;
the  Library  is  also my office area; and the integrity of the collection
and  security  of  the educational technology, independent courseware,
textbooks,   and   musical   instruments  must  be  maintained.  It is becoming
more   and  more  difficult  not  to  sound  like  the  stereotypical
"gatekeeper" when repeating this policy.  If possible, please forward
any highschool "hours of service" policies or additional "reasons" why
faculty  should  not  have a key to the Library for after-school hours
access.   The highschool opened September 1997 and enrols approx. 150 grades 7
to OAC Moose Cree First Nation students.

Subject: TECH: DVD for computers

Hi everybody.

Another tech questions for you -- our technology consultants are planning to
put a DVD (digital video disk) player in all 35 classrooms in our new high
school.  Is this wise to do at this time?  I haven't seen any DVD programs out
except for the blockbuster type movies.  Is there a standard digital format?
Is there software available?  Are we looking at a VHS vs. BETA type situation?
Any articles to support your views would be greatly appreciated!
