The article in American Libraries re: bookstores vs libraries had some good
points and has struck a chord. I have been a library user since early
childhood. I have been in libraries where I did feel unwanted and was
anxious to get my books and leave. I was in Barnes&Nobles on Sat. and was
stuck as I usually am by the ambiance and the spaciousness. My local public
library (2 miles away) is small, cramped and poorly lit even though the circ
numbers are high.

My media center is newly expanded with all new furniture, carpeting,
computers and shelves. The lounge area is quite inviting and I have added
plants, posters, stuffed animals based on book characters as well as Winnie
the Pooh and Peter Rabbit throws on a rocker. I can't tell you how popular
the room is. Children "hate" to leave. Some teachers have suggested
classical music (!) Now if only I could get the administration to pay for
expanded hours...
