This is a serious request and time here is growing short. We have an autistic
student who is working with the vocational and/or office skills teachers to
find a job (in the real world) following graduation. She is very capable, a
perfectionist, but works very slowly although with training she does pick up
the pace. She is a student who we are hoping will find employment and have
the opportunity for a reasonably independent lifestyle. She is capable of
taking public transportation, has a job coach and we see possibilities. So far
the "real world" had demanded more speed than reasonable to expect in this
case. She is excellent in a llibrary setting, but our public library has
found her "too slow" and treated her rather poorly. Please suggest any pos-
sibilities-we want to explore every option and feel we can make a difference
in this students future. What has been your experience? What can we suggest?
We know this student is capable of far more than a sheltered workshop if given
a chance! We are open to all suggestions! Thanks--
