Dear Group: In NJ the ESPA tests require that students (4th grade) are able to speak about a topic presenting information in a logical way. Here is how my fourth grade is getting assistance with this skill from Library. I taught an outline of the BIG6, made them take notes, and gave an assignment. They were to choose a state and present a 2-3 minute commercial for the state and try to convince an audience to come and visit. First library session included time for research. Presentations start in two weeks. I will videotape them and we will include critiques when we watch. Kids and a camera, especially a video camera, always generates enthusiasm. I "take" so many ideas from this group, I hope someone else can use this.
