Illinois Writer in Residence James Bennett visited our region last week
and was enthusiastically received by students and faculty.  He talks with
groups of 20-60 students, answers their questions, and  generates a lot
of interest.  Especially in this somewhat rural area, a real-life
author is a kind of role model students almost never see.  The Writer
in Residence grant pays most of the expenses for Bennett's visit, and
I understand it may be continued next year as well.  We are grateful
for this form of support for writers and for reading in the lives of
the MTV generation!  Anyone interested in the program should contact
the Illinois State Library.
