REF: Helping aspiring writer

We have a junior who has asked his English teacher for "advice" on becoming a 
writer. He is sincere and a person who is working to transform himself into a 
student in the best sense of the word. The teacher gave the general advice : Write. 
 But beyond that we are looking for information on workshops for young writers 
(Minnesota area), links to authors or publishers, or other suggestions. Please 
respond to me directly.
