Good morning- Have any of you collected any gems from weeding out your vertical files? It took me 5 years to weed out my library when I first took over. I finally got to my vertical file 7 years ago. I don't believe it was ever weeded. Some of the outstanding pamphlets I saved were : Home protection exercises (Civil Defense Mobilization 1959); New Jersey- development of the state highway system [1960]; Exploring your personality [1950]; A new look at soap sculpture; The soil that went to town; Getting along in school [1951]; and my personal favorite - How to keep you teeth after 30. Next year, I'll be losing the vertical file in a renovation of the library. They will become horizontal. Should I rename it the horizontal file? Keep it as the vertical file and suggest the kids look at it with their heads bent at a 45 degree angle? Name it the "X files" or have a "name the file contest"? It's Monday morning. I teach in a middle school and I need some humor. Thanks! Wayne C.
