Kansas does not have state standards for school libraries. "Information Power" even the new edition is not specific enough for the vast aray of sizes of schools and types of communities in Kansas. "Information Power" are more standards of quality, helpful, but standards of quantity based on actual inventories provides more incentive to emulate good schools. Denise Erwin (Andover HS) and I are doing a presentation at Kansas Tri-Conference (KASL, KLA, KAECT) in two weeks, and we will be testing the waters for writing school standards for Kansas. I would like to hear from all states that have school standards and electronic links to them if they are available. Let us know how they are used and how they are applied (used by librarians, applied by administration). If electronic links are unavailble, please let me know where I may obtain a written copy. Respond directly to <harryw@midusa.net> and <dirwin@feist.com>. Harry Willems http://skyways.lib.ks.us/kansas/sekls/willems Consultant, Assistant Dir.
