Bible versions

I have been asked by a student a difficult question:  how many different
version of the Bible are there (including in the past)?  Actually she
used the word "translations" but I think she really means "versions."
She wants it in connection with a classroom project for "Inherit the
Wind."  I have searched our collection and the Internet, and this is
quite a stumper.  LC does not do much good; although the number of hits
on "Bible" is enormous, I could find no way to determine how many
different versions that represented.

Any ideas?  There are histories of the Bible which seem, from their
titles, to include translations, but we do not have (quick) access to
these titles.
