I collect old cookbooks. I have a (badly damaged but readable) copy of the original Fannie Farmer cookbook published in the 1880s. Where else will you find the directions for getting rust stains out of linsey-woolsey or what wood to use in the stove or how to plan your cooking so that all items of the meal arrive at the table still hot? I have another one from the late '30s with a chapter on how to stretch ration coupons as well as cake recipe variations that used only one egg and less than 1/2 cup sugar. It gives tips on how to get the most for your money at the butcher shop ("keep a close watch as the butcher trims your meat and have him give you the trimmings for a hearty stew"). The handwritten comments in the margins are also priceless! I love these books! -- Susan Grigsby, LMS The Epstein School Atlanta, GA sgrigsby@atlchai.org Those who don't understand aren't committed ...those who do should be! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
