hi. new student teacher would like the 5th graders to read a chapter book
life in the depression and the 1930's.
The 1998 Newbery Award book is set in 1935-1936 in the Oklahoma dustbowl:

HAD A REQUEST TO POST A HIT>>thanks to all !!!!! many came up with the new

(brain on vacation!!)

Thesman's The storyteller's daughter.  Subjects include:  Fathers and
daughters 2. Depression-1929  3. Family life 4. city and town life

Don't forget the 1998 Newbery, Karen Hesse's _Out of the Dust_ - about
the Depression and the Oklahoma pan handle region.
