In response to Sherry's post, I queried my nextdoor neighbor, who is both a professional baker of wedding cakes and other luxury catered desserts, and English (complete with Masterpiece Theatre accent). Her reply: "Anton - I've never heard of this, and none of my English cookbooks mention it. It's not a "classical" English recipe; my guess is that someone made it up. It should be easy enough to cobble up a batch, though: Create sticky toffee, and pudding, and then combine the two. Sticky toffee is simply toffee that has been left around in a damp kitchen. Or not made properly! Pudding is the generic name for dessert in England - I suppose a simple egg custard would fit the bill. Or, the writer is thinking of the French creme brulee, in which a custard is baked in a shallow porcelain baking dish, then sprinkled with brown sugar, which is subsequently melted to the point of caramelization under the broiler. The result would fit the name, too." So, I hope this helps!
