Karen,
I'm sure you have gotten your phone call by now. I saved your message,
talked with many of my teachers to get their responses. The responses
poured in today (Thurs, Mar. 26). A commercial during the piece on the
tragedy in Jonesboro showed young men drinking, a man pulling a young
lady into the tub with him, and the gang using semi-automatic rifles.
The concensus was that the commercial was inappropriate for Channel One,
but that it would be shown during a feature on violence in schools where
two young men killed fellow classmen and a teacher was unconscionable.
One of the English teachers called the 800 number for Channel One to
complain and it appears that they had quite a few calls today. The
general feeling is that Channel One has made a shift if focus, and not
a favorable shift.
