Dear "Netters, I would also like to extend my congratulations to Judy for NEXT year's Newbery Committee.I am currently serving on this year's Newbery committee, for the 1999 medal. I am the only school librarian on this year's committe. Why? Probably because I'm the only one that tried to get on it. The Newbery committee is made up of ALSC members. If you are interested in being on it, join that division of ALA (in addition to AASL, of course ;)) There is one chairperson and 14 committee members. Half the committee is elected, the other half is appointed. I was one of the ones who were appointed. I got myself appointed simply by e-mailing the president of ALSC in the fall as she was appointing people and telling her about myself. They look for a diversity of people. You, too, can serve on the Newbery committee! In the meantime, if you have any suggestions for this year's award winner, I would be happy to take them back to the rest of the committee. Remember though, it's not for the most popular book, but for the "most distinguished contribution to children's literature." Thanks for listening, Yapha ******************************************************** * Yapha Nussbaum Mason Brentwood School * * Librarian Los Angeles, CA * * Yapha_Mason@bwscampus.com * ******************************************************** -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Brentwood School Los Angeles, CA 90049 Web Page : http://www.bwscampus.com -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv. What I can't decide is whether to officially withdraw them and offer them to teachers/students or check them out as "permanent loan" to a teacher and keep them in the circ system (in case someone wants to do novel studies - I dream a lot). Suggestions? What do you do with stuff like this?
