TARGET:Justifying portable barcode reader

If you have and use a portable barcode reader when you do
inventory could you please send me a word or two about why it
is beneficial as opposed to (a)lugging everything to the desk
to be scanned or (b) moving the computer around the library on
a cart and taking everything off the shelves to scan.

Yes, to you and me it is obvious why a portable is better (less
time taken for inventory, easier physically, more accurate) but
to the keeper of the $$$$$ here it is NOT obvious (I think if
THAT PERSON were the one doing the lugging around of carts and
books and av mtrls it WOULD become obvious...rapidly...) so I
thought some input from other librarians might help plead my
case.
