Thank you to everyone who responded! We found the poem the teacher was
looking for! He was very impressed.

Here is a hit of the holocaust poetry suggested for use with elementary
students:

You may want to try "I Never Saw Another Butterfly: Children's Drawings &
Poems from Terezin concentration camp, 1942-1944." by Hanna Valvkova.
2nd ed. Schocken Bks, c1993.

Also the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. has a catalog
full of good titles for all grade levels.

"Memories of the Night: A study of
the Holocaust". The authors are Dade County Public School teachers. It is
a compilation of facts and units of instruction to go with those facts. In
it, there is a poem about the piles of shoes found in many of the camps.

Look for Yuri Yevtishenko (that's not quite right) He was a hot Russian
poet in the 60's who wrote about the Holocaust.

"Babi Yar" by Yevgeny Yevtushenko? This poem is about
the mobile killing squads, or Einsatzgruppen, who butchered Russian Jews in
a ravine called Babi Yar.

Images from the Holocaust: A Literature Anthology, edited by Jean E.
Brown. It was published by the NTC Publishing Group, Lincolnwood,
Illinois. You should be able to find it in one of the book catalogs such
as Scholastic, etc.

Art from the Ashes: A Holocaust Anthology, by Lawrence L. Langer. It was
published by Oxford University Press, New York. You should also be able to
find this in one of the catalogs. Social Studies School Service, in
particular, publishes a Holocaust catalog which contains a lot of items.

Thank you again to everyone who made suggestions!
