Greetings! First graders were in heaven today walking around in their crowns: Wonderful short read "If I were Queen of the World" by Fred Hiatt and illustrated by a favorite of mine, Mark Graham (an art teacher in Port Washington NY). Then sit in a circle and have each of them finish their idea if they were Queen or King of the world. Then have your strips of 8 X 24" yellow paper, scissors and crayons ready. Ask them to make their crown with a K-I-N-G or Q-U-e-E-N on it and decorate it and demonstrate some ways to cut the top zig zaggy or whatever. When done, measure around their heads, staple and voila. SO SIMPLE and They LOVED it...
