Hello everyone- The computer teacher and I have presented the idea of flexible access for both our areas for next year to our principal. Our principal feels it is a good way to go and has given us the go ahead to present this concept to the staff at a staff meeting before school on May 27. We will have about a half hour to do this. Anyone out there who has some good solid statistics, research results, etc. about flexible access and its positive influence on K-5 students, would you please email me the info? We are going to have to wow them and be concise and to the point to make the half hour most effective. There are going to be a lot of teachers in this group who will not be happy about this- we are currently on a fixed schedule of 25 classes per week (basically providing prep time); 4th and 5th grade every week, K-3 every other week. It is a killer schedule and does not work well, especially for the younger children. (We have about 930 students.) If anyone has a copy of the Colorado Study you could send, that would be great too (or anything else along those lines). Please, any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. I really want to see this go forward for next year. One more thing; I wanted to open the session with a 3 min. or so activity that would illustrate to the teachers how frustrating it is to the kids when they come in for a lesson with me and it's something that takes longer than one class and then they have to be expected to remember what we were doing the week before last when they come back to see me again so we can continue the project/lesson. Any ideas for this little eye opener would be good too.
